ReWater Center Visits Los Angeles Department of Water & Power Headworks Project

On April 11, 2024, the ReWater Center had the opportunity to visit the new  headworks direct potable reuse (DPR) project. Advanced treated water from this location will be returned to the supply for treated drinking water augmentation. This one million gallon per day facility has three different advanced water treatment trains operating concurrently to help evaluate full scale processes. In the future, this location will serve as a test site for large-scale facilities.

We watched different presentations about the development and goals of the project. We also had the chance to tour the facility. Ultimately the goal of the project is to increase public trust in the safety of their water and allow for research into different water treatment trains. The students also had the chance to network with engineers working directly for the LA Department of Water and Power (DWP) and the consultants working on the headworks facility.
